One of my favorite places to go for a walk in the Santa Ynez area is Nojoqui Falls. It is an easy, relaxing walk/hike, great to work off all those delicious Danish pastries that Solvang tempts its visitors with. It is a quick 1o minute drive from Solvang along Alisal Rd. You will pass the hotels and shops, the golf course and the road will become a narrow dusty, rocky country road, Nojoqui Falls Park will be on your left. Parking is free and there are lots of picnic tables. The trail which goes up to the waterfall is very easy to spot among the old lush trees. It is a really great place for families, couples looking for a romantic stroll, or anyone wanting some tranquility. There are a few benches along the short trail for those needing a stop or wanting to sit and enjoy the coolness under the trees.
The best time to go is after a rainy period as the waterfall tends to dry up entirely in the summer.Even if you end up going when the river is very low you will still enjoy the beauty and lull of the forest. I love the canopy formed by the trees arching over the trail.
Another way of reaching Nojoqui Falls is off of the 101North Hwy. It is a shorter drive than the one from Solvang actually. There is a sign for the exit on the 101, right before the organic fruit farms. There are fresh organic blueberries and strawberries you can pick yourself and take with you to enjoy on your hike to the waterfall.Yummy!!!
